HALLOWEEN PROPS AND MECHANISMS
2019 Halloween - Pumpkin Skull Head
This is this year's new addition. I've posted multiple videos showing how I started the design through the final design. So here's some pictures and video of the prop in action. It worked very well for the first time - nothing broke. The prop stand at 7 feet - 4.5 feet wide. My idea of using the switch for turning the stobe and audio FX on and off worked exactly as I hoped. One thing I did see - the up lighting from the lightning box sometimes impacted the FX of the strobe in the head. But I found I had to have lighting on the prop or you wouldn't see it well enough. I included the audio that I used which worked well. Same as the others - a boombox mounted in the back of the prop and an o...

2019 Halloween - Spider Cocoon
Просмотров 3,2 тыс.4 года назад
This is the 2019 design. Every year I change it a bit. The big add is the 3 costume Kids hanging in the center. There is a previous video showing how I attached all 3 together. I use a wiper motor plus this is added to the same PicoBoo controller I use for the Spiderman prop. Same thing happens - it starts and stops versus constant swaying. This year there are 7 spiders and 4 up-and-down moveme...
2019 Halloween - Supersized Leer Ghost
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.4 года назад
I hang this from the top of my roof peak. It's heavy enough that I use a 3-1 pulley system to lift it up. It's 16 feet across. Previous videos show the build of the prop. It works well - although I did have to add 2 bungy cords to pull back on the head due to it's weigh to help balance out the rotation of the wiper motor. I added the audio of the screeching that I use. Same as the others - mixe...
2019 Halloween - Pumpkin Head #2

So here's my #2 Pumpkin prop. It stands right around 9 feet tall and about 7 feet wide. You can watch a previous video to see what I used to make the head. The head weighs right around 25 lbs. to support the horns. This prop is simple in design - the wiper motor moving the arms and head side-to-side. I added the soundtrack I use for the prop. Found audio tracks online and then mixed and blended...
2019 Halloween - Spiderman

So this is my Spiderman prop. I bought a boy's size costume - used a wiper motor for movement - the linkage is the same as the hanging man prop that is posted multiple times on the Internet. I use a PicoBoo controller from Frightprops that lets you program the movement of the prop with starts and stops vs. just moving constantly back and forth. I think it makes it look a lot more life-like. Plu...
2019 Halloween - Singing Pumpkins

So about 5 years ago I purchased a DVD that has all the songs and animations. I bought a used In-Focus off Ebay for a projector. The pumpkins are inflatable - about 3.5 feet high. I've tied them to a 1X12 with 2 speakers between them. I've got the In-Focus positioned in a box on top of my car in the driveway about 20 feet back - I just position the car so the projections line up with the inflat...
2019 Halloween - graveyard

Pictures and video of the graveyard. The "theme" is a marraige - with a bride and groom. Bought the wedding dress and tuxedo on Ebay really cheap. Used the beltsander method to age them both. Found "B" stock skeleton heads and arms and built the bodies out of PVC. The are previous videos that show how I make the multiple props move side-to-side or up and down. The box is in the middle of the gr...
2019 Halloween - Swaying Ghost
Просмотров 8634 года назад
This is another "supersized" prop based off a Johnny's Ghost design. Very simple use of wiper motor to make the prop "sway". Originally it was 13 feet tall. This year I cut it down to 10 feet - which was still tall but much easier to assemble. I found the plastic skull online - great that it has color changing LEDs All the body is made from PVC and garden weed fabric and guaze. I used another b...

So here's my #1 Pumpkin prop. It stands right around 8 feet tall and about 6 feet wide. You can watch a previous video to see what I used to make the head. The head weighs right around 30 lbs. to support the horns. This is also the prop that on a previous video I showed the linkage for making the arm go up-and-down plus moving the head side-to-side. It works okay. I added the soundtrack I use f...
2019 Animated pumpkin final, final design
Просмотров 6514 года назад
I wanted to add something to make the prop have more detail and dimension. Added vines growing from the top of the head down through the body and into the feet. Used foam pipe insulation - twisted it and duct taped it to hold the twist. Painted it black, added spray foam to build up and then painted with orange, red, and brown. Then added leaves and stalks for more texture. The vines do add som...
2019 Pumpkin Head - final design
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.4 года назад
Just a short video showing the final design for the prop. I got a size 60" overall and a 8X shirt. I ended up having to buy them since I couldn't find anything close to the size in thrift stores. But got them on sale - paid $47 for both so not too bad. I'm still looking for size 18 boots. This is my most expensive prop so far. Counting everything with the motor and all it's probably around $150...
2019 Animated pumpkin - with new motor
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.5 лет назад
I want to post this video showing the new motor I found. I couldn't slow the wiper motor down any lower than around 10-12 RPM with the PWM without the motor stalling. I spent probably 4 hours searching on the Internet plus posting to forums and didn't get any feedback looking for options having high torque / low RPMs. So I'm thinking maybe other people are looking for something like this too. S...
2019 Animated pumpkin linkage
Просмотров 3,4 тыс.5 лет назад
I had seen this idea somewhere before but couldn't find the video. I wanted to show a linkage design that allows the prop to "pause" during the rotation cycle. As I discussed, you do need to do a bit of math to figure out the right measurements but it's not that hard. For me - I wanted a 5" movement which equals a 2.5" arm off the motor. I wanted to add 3" in the slot for the period of when the...
2019 Animated pumkin 4th video
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.5 лет назад
latest video on the prop build. Shows the lights and sound FX control using the rocker light switch. It ended up being a real easy, low tech way to control the FX. I plan on using it on my other props. The prop works well considering I didn't have a design at the start. One thing I forgot to mention - you can see rubber bands attached to the arms on the front and back. I put them there to make ...
2019 Animated pumkin - skull modification
Просмотров 7615 лет назад
Video showing how I modified the skull I'm using for the prop. Bought the skull at consumercrafts.com. Great item for the price. It is right around 17" which is what I need to fit inside the pumpkin. I cut out the jaw, used some bondo to build up the jawline and modified it with masking tape and paint. Paint it all black to start then brush on white, final coat of stain if you want to darken wh...

Genius
How to earn a subscriber in under 3 minutes! Well done!
Need tutorial!!!
That is really brilliant and shows just how much work a wiper motor can do!
JUST WOW! 💀
Wonderful Idea My Friend! Great setup! Thanks for the How-To! Lots of utility here. I might have to build one for my 2024 Haunt! --LJ
Genius.. I'm currently using your design to animate a 14ft tall Krampus I built (not using any prefabs or mask... sewed the gown, sculpted the hands and head, even weaved his giant basket. I was stumped with getting his arms and head to move as I wanted, your design will work spectacularly. Tha k you profusely
Awesome fantastic idea
One word: ELEGANT. I am only sorry I came across this so late in the Halloween season (after making individually powered props). Next year I’ll be doing just this and populate my yard with moving ghouls zombies and spiders! One question: I found by using the reindeer motors that torque is a limitation as far as how much I can get out of a motor. The motor you bought seems to be doing great with all those props. Have you tried adding more and have you noticed any limitations as far as to how much that motor you are using can do? If it’s strong enough for 10-15 props I’ll probably get the same one
Very creepy..... but that's a good thing. Thanks for all of your hard work on this!
your a genius!!!! thank you
Return this Halloween 🎃
He passed away
@@Random_Moose76 did he actually?
@@amistake yes
This is so impressive!! How long does it take you to set it up every year?
I’m Sorry Mam But The Person Who Made This Video Has Sadly Passed Away
Oh no Im so sorry. @@Brodie338
@@Kickstart.social I Do Not Relate To This Guy But I Did Sorta Know Him And A Relative Found Me And Told Me He Was Found Dead In A Hotel For A Unknown Reason. He Has A Video From 2017 Showing How Long I Takes For Him To Set This Up
Wish this had been a tutorial for the moving apparatus at the end of each string......and how to hook up each so that they don't have slack in between the movement
He's using counter wieght to pull the slack...
this is great! can you list the motor and speed controller you used?
He passed away
@@Random_Moose76 How do you know that? what happened?
@@diyoregonnowtexas9202 I became friends with Rick on Facebook after discovering his videos years ago. Unfortunately he passed in 2020 due to complications from Covid.
Amazing job!🎉
This is AMAZING! Cant wait to do this Halloween 2023!
Can you please provide a link to Amazon for the motor? I need one too for my projects. Thank you 👍🙏
Did the 5 volt supply work?
This is probably the dumbest question ever but I have never grasped how to make the second connection on the motor revolve. I see in your video the arm attached to the motor is a solid connection. But the the end of that arm connected to the prop allows the spinning. What washer and bolt combination do I need to do and prevent the nut and bolt from loosening as the prop moves?
Fantastic! Exactly what I need for next year
Dam bro I no longer have to watch multiple videos thanks to you... .. thankd
how do you keep the tension on the strings while the wiper motor goes around? I keep getting slack when the blade gets to the bottom of its rotation (like at the 6 o'clock position relative to the prop it is connected to), and the string then falls off of the pulley at the box...
Was just about to do the same as I hadn't seen anyone else do it, great minds think alike!
Freakin next level good job.
What color wire goes where? Any advice will help please🙏🙏
what are the specs on the PVC pipes you used .. lengths?
Amazing!! Thank you! This is pure genius!!!
This is pure Genius!!
Do you have tutorial building on of the 2 bar mechanisms. Trying to teach my son how follow directions for builds
FANTASTIC!
Can you share the prop build dimensions? I haven’t found any double bar plans online. Thanks
Can a 5rpm deer motor be able to support several animations?
I am curious, where did you get the bracket that attaches to the rotating shaft? I ordered a wiper motor and mine did not come with one and I am struggling to find one.
Looks great, have watched the other vids about this build! Any idea what kind of fabric it actually is??
Just subscribed. Thanks champ and Godspeed.
great idea..

Very cool. And love the idea of the 1 inch over 3/4 inch, to make it more easily storable!
Very cool! So far we've only used pneumatic props for Halloween and the wiper motor for Christmas. Still unsure what to do for Christmas this year...post COVID..😔
Great idea thank you very much

Does that spider have a "web" site? Ba ha ha haaaaaaa!!! Another stellar execution, your work is at the top!!
Just found your seriously excellent videos/ creations. I usually find something to add or tweak but your start-to-finish is so thorough and inspired. I find a very small percentage of people that produce from that zone! Major "props" to you!!!
Great idea. Very imaginative!
